After five years it is time to say goodbye to xanga.
Hello wordpress.

Friday, July 31, 2009

Today I woke up at 8:43. Shocked by how late it was (which was shocking in itself since even a few years ago I normally slept until noon) I got up immediately.  I went downstairs, fed the cats, then turned on the TV and slept on the couch for nearly three hours.

I hate these kinds of days.

Having church at nine in the summers is throwing me off.  I come home at ten and am ready for lunch.  I want to eat lunch right after the service and then go to my room and paint/draw/nap and listen to A Prairie Home Companion on WHYY.

But it has been good to get home early today.  I ate a peach and brewed four pots of tea (two are in the fridge and will be wonderful cold later.  One I already drank and the last is sitting in a small yellow teapot on my desktop, waiting another seven minutes for Garrison Keillor to come on so that it can finally be drank.  That was a bad idea since it will no longer be hot.  Ah well.)

A few loads of laundry have been washed.  Yesterday I cleaned the family room as well as the downstairs bathroom and the back hallway.  I want to clean more, but I feel like I shouldn't clean on a Sunday.  I always have this desire to keep the Sabbath battling the deeper desire to clean.  I suppose if I've already done laundry I can clean another room, right?

Where I live restaurants never deliver. First, there are so few restaurants around here, and restaurants in small towns don't deliver. Second, the restaurants in the more populated areas don't have enough compassion to drive out this far.

So the idea of feeling lazy and ordering take out does not exist to us in this little place. As soon as we order we have to leave to pick it up; in the twenty minutes it takes us to get to the restaurant our order is ready.

The idea of delivery is so foreign and full of mystery. I understand when ordering the order-taker asks for your address, but how do they know where that is? How do they know how to find you? Do they have the layout of the city memorized in its entirety? Isn't that kind of creepy? And how do you know how much to tip? Is a tip even required? Do you clean your foyer while you're waiting so that the delivery man won't think you're a slob?

I am glad life is more simple in this little village. Who wants the complication of convenience?

I love this weather. Grey and overcast. Warm and cool. Autumn with a chance of summer tomorrow.
